Pennsylvania Modern Whig Membership
Hello fellow Whigs,
I'm Tom Nankivell, the State Secretary for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Modern
Whig Party, and also Chairperson for the Modern Whigs of Luzerne County. I'm
attempting to gather information from current Pennsylvania members and those
interested in becoming members of the Modern Whig Party.
Currently we are working through the process of organizing ourselves in
preparation to applying for non-profit status. This is a first step needed
to grow into a political party fully recognized by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. Because of the amount of work ahead we are not planning on running
or supporting Whig candidates in the 2010 election. This year we must concentrate
on growth and organization. In 2011, we are planning on supporting strong, moderate
Modern Whig candidates for local offices throughout Pennsylvania
Starting in 2012, assuming that the growth, organization, and electoral success
lead to this point, we would like to begin indentifying candidates for all local,
state, and national offices up for election.
In order to grow to a nationally identified organization we need your help. This
is where you come in. To making our goals happen we need our current members to
inform their friends, co-workers, and anyone else they know that they are Whigs
and proud of it. Talk to people about the party. Then join us on the national
Modern Whig and Penn Whig Facebook and Twitter groups. Invite your Facebook and
Twitter friends to join us as well. When people are complaining about the
Healthcare bill or anything else that the Republicans or Democrats are doing,
let them know that there is a middle choice, a moderate voice for American
government.
With many more members willing to take leadership roles in their regional caucus
and counties. Take a look at the maps in the "Regional Information" pages and
see what jobs need to be filled in your area. Volunteer to fill them if
you can. If you can’t, then volunteer to help those brave leaders. Watching from
the sidelines will never change the madness.
Next year, we will need even more people committed to make a serious efforts to
win local office. Personally I’m hoping to take a run at a county commissioner
job. Becomming a future candidate you will need to commit yourself only to
realistically attainable offices. Running is a waste of treasure and effort when
winning is not attainable! We need wins under our collective belt. Lastly, we’ll
need to prepare and assist people who have the time, energy, and resources to go
for those big offices in 2012, like Bob Casey’s U.S. Senate seat and the 17-19
U.S. House seats we’ll have in Pennsylvania after the national and state
redistricting that will happen after this year’s census.
I’m asking all of you to take our on-line interest survey
. Let us know where you stand, so we can figure out how to maximize our
efforts. Together, we can change America and make history.
