"Unity from the Center in the Keystone of Democracy"
John Wommer, Mifflin County Chairman (Apr, 30, 10)
It is my privilege today to introduce a new motto for the Pennsylvania Chapter:
"Unity from the Center in the Keystone of Democracy". I believe that the true strength
of the Party is and always
will be the broad acceptance of our members views. It is this Unity of acceptance,
of giving each voters' concerns equal footing within the Party and - someday soon -
in government, that will be our "moral" strength and guide. We come firmly from the
Center of the political spectrum - not from a lack of commitment to any particular
ideals but rather we embrace all views equally - which helps us
balance the party both internally and with our voters.
My name is John Wommer, and I am proud to be a new member of the Pennsylvania
Chapter of the Modern Whig Party, as well as the Chairman for the new Mifflin County
Chapter. I found myself drawn to the Modern Whigs while searching for an alternative
to the partisan fractures that are rife in the current parties, and sought an
organization with a more moderate, balanced, intelligent process
towards issues
and government. After 30 years as a Republican, I watched my party spiral into a
morass of special interest, rhetoric,
and social engineering. In the Modern Whigs
I finally found that moderate, balanced and intelligent process alive.
The Modern Whigs' ideals of Fiscal Responsibility, Energy Independence, State's
responsibility, Social Acceptance, Education and Science Advancement, and
Veteran's Affairs all resonate on fundamental levels with where I come from
politically, and where I think we as a nation need to be headed.
We are all proud Pennsylvanians, with the birthright and obligations inherent within
this Keystone of Democracy. As our forefathers were some of the first to stand up
and form the government which continues today, like them we too can we lead a modern
revolution. Not with venom spewing propaganda as seen nightly on the news, nor
flash-of-the-moment sound bites meant to obscure, "spin", and misdirect the voter
into black and white, right-v-left views of issues which should be given thoughtful
consideration, but a revolution to how the government today serves the voters -
all voters; a revolution to the future of our country and society; a revolution
today that will change tomorrow, just as the first American Revolution changed
history and the face of our planet.
The national Party motto is "The Party for the Rest of Us", but in the truest
nature of our nation (and our state), the "Rest of Us" together are not those
who are left behind or ignored, we are those that can build a new ideal, those
that can move political mountains, those that, Unified, Centered, and with the
strength of a Keystone, can begin to build tomorrow.
PENN WHIG CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP
Members, (Mar, 1, 10)
Because we are a new, young and fresh political voice in PA Politics we also suffer
from a weak member base. Finding both supporters and active leaders is a very slow
process. As our chairman continues to contact anyone from PA that had registered
with the National Modern Whig Party website, the PennWhig.Org will begin a campaign
to encourage participation in the chapter.
We need county and local leaders and activists to grow the movement. Both at-large
members and supporters are also very important. Without a good, strong, solid base
of politically moderate supporters we can never run citizen candidates to act as
anchors for moderation. To long we have been pulled apart by the PUSH-ME-PULL-YOU
politics of this two party bickering system.
Speak up, join, help us make this the level playing field outlined in the Constitution.
Email your support to "members" at this site "pennwhig.org" and let us know how you want to help.
